Fri Jan 24 18:40:30 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Renounces Fame, Becomes Hindu Monk

**Allahabad, India** – Mamta Kulkarni, a popular Bollywood actress of the 1990s, has shocked fans by renouncing her acting career and embracing a life of religious devotion. On Friday, Kulkarni, 52, officially took *sanyaas* (religious renunciation) at the Kinnar Akhara in Mahakumbh, becoming a Sadhvi (female Hindu ascetic) under the new name Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.

Kulkarni met with Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, who, after an hour-long discussion, appointed her as a Mahamandaleshwar—a high-ranking title within the Kinnar Akhara, a religious order for transgender individuals. A video of Kulkarni in saffron robes, the traditional attire of Hindu monks, has since gone viral on social media.

In a statement, Kulkarni attributed her decision to divine guidance, stating, “This was the order of Mahadev, Maha Kaali. This was the order of my Guru. They chose this day. I didn’t do anything.” Acharya Tripathi confirmed the appointment, stating that Kulkarni had been in contact with the Kinnar Akhara for 18 months and is permitted to continue performing devotional art.

The Kinnar Akhara, founded in 2015 by Acharya Tripathi, aims to integrate the transgender community into mainstream society. The appointment of Kulkarni as a Mahamandaleshwar has been kept largely secret by the Akhara.

Kulkarni starred in numerous Bollywood hits during her career, including *Karan Arjun*, *Krantiveer*, and *China Gate*, before her last film appearance in 2002’s *Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum*. Her unexpected transition has left many fans surprised and intrigued, marking a significant turning point in her life.
