Fri Jan 24 14:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Becomes Mahamandaleshwar
**Prayagraj, India:** Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for her bold roles, has embraced a new life as a Mahamandaleshwar (a high-ranking Hindu religious leader). The ceremony took place Friday at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, following a ritual bath and ancestral rites. Kinnaar Akhara’s Acharya Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi bestowed the title upon her, giving her the new name Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.
Kulkarni, who claims to have lived a life similar to a renunciate for nearly two decades, underwent rigorous testing before receiving the title. She reportedly faced extensive questioning about her 23 years of penance, spiritual practices, and meditation. She stated that she successfully completed various examinations before being deemed worthy of the honor.
Kulkarni arrived at the Maha Kumbh Mela a day prior, initially intending to participate in the Mauni Amavasya bath. She had previously announced plans to visit Kashi Vishwanath and Ayodhya but ultimately came to Prayagraj instead, where she sought to dedicate herself to furthering Sanātana Dharma (Hinduism).
Acharya Lakshmi Narayan revealed that Kulkarni had been in contact with the Akhara for about a year and a half. Following the passing of her previous guru, she sought guidance and expressed a desire to fully integrate into the Sanātana tradition. She reportedly requested the position of Mahamandaleshwar, agreeing to the necessary conditions of renunciation and a commitment to the Akhara’s way of life. However, she was granted permission to continue acting in religious roles or Bollywood if opportunities arose.
Kulkarni herself confirmed her commitment, emphasizing the 23 years of penance she undertook and the rigorous examinations she passed. She attributed her transformation to the divine will of Goddess Kali and Lord Mahakal. She acknowledged potential disappointment among her fans but stressed that her actions were guided by divine mandate. She also mentioned choosing Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi as her spiritual guru. The Akhara plans to further consider appointing her as a spokesperson.
