Thu Jan 23 17:30:38 UTC 2025: **Headline:** ₹28 Crore Flyover, Six Underpasses Planned for Chennai-Bengaluru Highway
**Ranipet, January 24, 2025** – Construction is underway on a new flyover and six underpasses along the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway, aiming to improve safety and reduce travel time across Vellore, Ranipet, and Tirupattur districts. The projects, spearheaded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), are slated for completion by April.
A ₹28 crore flyover is being built at the accident-prone Arcot town junction near the Palar river. This one-way flyover, measuring 35 meters long and 11 meters wide, was chosen over a longer land acquisition process. The six underpasses, each 4.5 meters high and 20 meters wide, are under construction in various villages across the three districts and will accommodate all vehicle types.
These improvements target accident-prone “black spots” and “U-turn” areas, offering safer routes and shorter travel times for residents and emergency services. The underpasses are strategically placed approximately 1.5 km apart at key intersections and busy locations. The highway currently boasts 17 similar underpasses between Krishnagiri and Walajapet. Motorists like C. Prakash express optimism that the upgrades will significantly reduce travel time and improve emergency response times.
