Fri Jan 24 00:20:00 UTC 2025: ## NBA All-Star Starters: Predictions Unveiled Ahead of Thursday’s Announcement

**NEW YORK** – The NBA will announce the 2024-25 All-Star starters this Thursday, and while the final lineup remains uncertain, several players appear poised for starting nods. This year’s All-Star game will feature a new format: 24 players split across three teams competing in a mini-tournament. Despite the format change, the league will still recognize 10 starters (two guards and three frontcourt players per conference). The selection process weighs fan votes (50%), player votes (25%), and media votes (25%).

According to CBS Sports’ predictions, four players are considered locks: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic in the West, and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum in the East. Gilgeous-Alexander’s leading scorer status and MVP candidacy virtually guarantee his selection. Jokic, a three-time MVP, is also a safe bet. Antetokounmpo’s continued high-level performance and Tatum’s career-best season solidify their positions.

The remaining spots, however, are hotly contested. Stephen Curry’s strong performance and popularity, particularly with the game being held in San Francisco, likely secures him a starting guard spot in the West. Despite a weaker season than Anthony Edwards or Luka Dončić, Curry’s fan vote ranking and overall contributions make him a likely choice. LeBron James, despite his age, remains a strong contender, benefiting from both his fan base and consistent performance. Although Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis might have stronger individual seasons, James’ longevity and contribution to a top-six Lakers team give him the edge. Victor Wembanyama’s impressive rookie year and strong media support position him to secure the final West frontcourt spot over Durant.

In the East, the guard positions are less certain. Jalen Brunson’s impact on his team should give him an advantage over LaMelo Ball, who might lack media support, despite his high-scoring games. Donovan Mitchell’s strong performance and popularity, combined with Cleveland’s early league dominance, makes him a top contender for an Eastern Conference guard spot. Karl-Anthony Towns’ strong offensive contribution for the Knicks, high fan vote ranking, and improved all-around game give him a likely starting frontcourt spot, while Evan Mobley’s defensive dominance wasn’t considered enough to surpass Towns’s offensive impact.

The final selections will be unveiled Thursday, bringing an end to the speculation and revealing the official 2024-25 NBA All-Star starters.
