Fri Jan 24 01:10:26 UTC 2025: ## Mammootty Stars in GVM’s Lighthearted Mystery Thriller, “Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse”

**KOCHI, KERALA –** Acclaimed director Gautham Vasudev Menon (GVM) has shifted gears from his signature police procedurals to a lighthearted mystery in his latest film, “Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse.” The Mammootty Kampany production stars Mammootty as Dominic, a private investigator whose case involves tracking down the owner of a missing purse, a far cry from the serious crimes he’s tackled in previous GVM films like “Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu” and “Kaakha Kaakha.”

The film, which premiered January 23rd, features a straightforward narrative, a departure from the director’s typically layered storytelling. While the investigation picks up pace in the second half, the first half focuses more on lighter moments, showcasing a strong chemistry between Mammootty and his co-stars Viji Venkatesh and Gokul Suresh. Venkatesh, following her success in “Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum,” delivers another noteworthy performance, while Kannada actor Sushmitha Bhat adds a captivating presence.

Though GVM’s stylistic choice of dedicating moments to Mammootty the actor rather than Dominic the character sometimes impacts the film’s pacing, the well-executed fight sequences and Darbuka Siva’s enchanting musical score, particularly the upbeat song “Eee Rathri,” add to the film’s charm. The climax delivers the expected rush of an investigation thriller, effectively balancing the film’s lighter first half. Mammootty once again proves his versatility by embracing a character-driven role. Overall, “Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse” offers a lighter, more relaxed take on the mystery genre from the acclaimed director.
