**Lawngtlai, Mizoram, January 24, 2025** – Lawngtlai today celebrated National Girl Child Day (NGCD) 2025 and the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign with a vibrant event at the LADC Hall. The event, organized by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the DPO (WCD) Office, Lawngtlai, was graced by the presence of the District Collector, Pu Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, IAS, as the chief guest.
Mr. Reddy highlighted the government’s initiatives aimed at empowering women and emphasized the importance of self-belief and determination for girls’ progress. He commended DHEW’s ongoing awareness campaigns and various programs, urging everyone to actively contribute to uplifting the status of women in the district. He stressed the responsibility of every individual to uphold and protect the rights of women.
The program included a pledge-taking ceremony led by Pi B. Lalruatchhungi, Gender Specialist-DHEW, where attendees reaffirmed their commitment to the NGCD 2025 objectives. Pu Z. Laldinhuala, Specialist Financial Literacy, presented an overview of BBBP’s achievements and the significance of NGCD. He detailed DHEW’s efforts in improving child sex ratio, promoting girls’ participation in sports and education, institutional deliveries, and menstrual hygiene.
A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of several “Girl Champions” who excelled in education, sports, and competitive exams, including the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations. These champions, along with a BBBP Champion from the police personnel, received awards from the chief guest. The awardees include:
* **Education:** Sheila Laldinthari Hnialum (Mizoram Judicial Service), Suchismita Ghosh (5th Position HSSLC Arts), F Lalneihpuii (6th Position HSSLC Arts), Elizabeth Lalthanpuii (9th Position HSSLC Arts), and Deborah Lalnunchami (1st Position, District & State Level Science Congress).
* **Sports:** Constable V Zosangliani (BBBP Champion – Police Personnel), Cindy B Lalchansangi (Gold Medalist, 15th Mizoram Shooting Championship), A.Lalrinsangi (Gold Medalist, 8th District Level Shooting Championship), Malsawmsangi (Gold Medalist, District Level Shooting Championship), and Lalsangzuali (Gold Medalist, Mizoram Taekwondo Championship).
Furthermore, several winners of competitions held as part of the celebration were recognized, including photography, article writing, baby show, video making, and painting competitions, all themed around the empowerment of girls.
The event concluded with participation from various officials including Pu V Vanlaldingliana (Assistant – DPO (WCD)), Pu Tlualaisa Hlychho (Addl. SP), Pi Lalthlamuani Rokhum (CDPO), and representatives from schools, the Observation Home, OSC, and Shakti Sadan.
