**TIRUCHI, January 24, 2025** – Haphazard parking by used two-wheeler dealers and financiers on Pattabiraman Street in Tiruchi is causing major traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents. The once-quiet street, connecting Thennur High Road and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital Road, has transformed into a de facto marketplace for used vehicles over the past three decades.
Approximately 20 showrooms, many operating from tiny spaces, now line both sides of the already narrow street. Dealers display 10 to 100 vehicles each, often parking them on the pavements and roadways from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., severely restricting traffic flow. The situation is exacerbated by two-wheeler repair shops that also utilize the road for repairs and client vehicle parking.
Local activist N. Jamaludeen highlighted the significant hardship faced by motorists and residents navigating the congested street. He urged the Tiruchi Corporation to intervene, suggesting the creation of a designated market or space for used two-wheeler sales to alleviate the problem. While some dealers claim to avoid encroaching on public space, the sheer number of vehicles displayed makes this impossible. The escalating number of two-wheelers in the city is cited as a contributing factor to the problem.
