Fri Jan 24 19:50:04 IST 2025: ## Karnataka Police Recover Stolen Gold in Tamil Nadu
**TIRUNELVELI, Tamil Nadu, Jan 24, 2025** – A joint operation between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police has resulted in the recovery of a significant amount of gold ornaments stolen from a cooperative bank in Mangaluru, Karnataka. The gold, part of ₹4 crore worth of loot taken during an armed robbery on January 17th, was recovered from the home of a suspect’s relative in Kalakkad, Tamil Nadu.
Five masked robbers, using fake registration numbers on their getaway cars, held up the Ullal bank near Mangalore, escaping with gold ornaments and cash. Investigations revealed an eight-member gang behind the heist, comprising individuals from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, and Mangaluru. The gang, who had allegedly planned the robbery while imprisoned in Mumbai, included three individuals from Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu.
Following arrests of two suspects, Murugandi and Joshua, in Tirunelveli, police recovered two kilograms of gold, ₹3 lakh in cash, and a revolver. Further interrogation led to the discovery of additional stolen gold at the home of Murugandi’s father in Padmaneri. A subsequent raid recovered several more kilograms of gold ornaments. Murugandi’s father is currently being questioned. A third suspect, Kannan Mani, an associate of Murugandi, was also arrested. The recovered gold is being returned to the Mangaluru cooperative bank.
