Fri Jan 24 14:45:23 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu to See Dry Spell, Then Another Round of Rain

**Chennai, January 24, 2025** – After weeks of persistent rainfall, Tamil Nadu is expected to experience a brief period of dry weather in the coming days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. However, another spell of rain is anticipated towards the end of January, around the 29th and 30th.

The RMC attributes the upcoming rainfall to a cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and the Andaman Sea. As this system moves closer to Tamil Nadu, it is likely to trigger fresh showers across the state. Initially, the rain is expected to affect southern districts before spreading elsewhere by January 30th.

While the state enjoys a dry spell in the interim, minimum temperatures may dip slightly below normal, particularly in northern Tamil Nadu. Chennai residents can expect chilly mornings and misty conditions, with minimum temperatures around 21-22 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rise slightly but remain relatively cool due to prevailing easterly winds.

Despite the upcoming dry spell, the RMC has yet to declare the official withdrawal of the northeast monsoon. Tamil Nadu has experienced above-average rainfall this January, with some districts, such as Tirunelveli, receiving significantly more rainfall than usual (23 cm compared to a normal of 2.4 cm). Karur Paramathi recorded the highest temperature in the state on Friday at 33.5 degrees Celsius.
