**Hyderabad, January 24, 2025** – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy today appealed to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar for ₹55,652 crore in central funding for various urban development projects in the state. The request was made during a review meeting in Hyderabad attended by several state ministers and officials.
The Chief Minister highlighted that urban areas constitute 65% of Telangana’s geographical area and emphasized the need for substantial central support for the development of municipalities and corporations, including the state capital. A presentation detailed proposed projects, including Metro Rail Phase II (₹24,269 crore), Musi River rejuvenation (₹10,000 crore), sewerage master plans (₹21,382 crore), and the Bhu Bharathi Act.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy specifically requested at least 20 lakh homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 scheme, citing Telangana’s disproportionately low allocation compared to its urban population. He pointed out that while Telangana accounts for 8% of India’s urban population, it received only 0.79% of the two crore houses allocated under Phase 1 of the scheme.
Union Minister Khattar acknowledged the requests and noted the recent ₹1.78 lakh crore in investment agreements signed by Telangana at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He assured consideration of all matters raised and pledged central support.
