Fri Jan 24 14:00:00 UTC 2025: **Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Becomes Mahamandaleshwar**

Prayagraj, India – Mamta Kulkarni, a former Bollywood actress known for her bold roles, has embraced a new path, taking monastic vows and becoming a Mahamandaleshwar (a high-ranking spiritual leader) in the Kinnar Akhara (a monastic order for transgender individuals) at the ongoing Kumbh Mela.

Kulkarni, who will now be known as Yamai Mamta Nand Giri, underwent a rigorous initiation process, including a series of examinations testing her knowledge and devotion after nearly two decades of living a life akin to a sadhvi (female ascetic). The ceremony, which included a ritual bath in the Sangam (confluence of rivers) and the offering of Pind Daan (ancestral rites), was conducted by Acharya Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi.

According to Acharya Tripathi, Kulkarni had been in contact with the Kinnar Akhara for about a year and a half, seeking guidance after the passing of her guru. She expressed a desire to fully dedicate herself to Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) and work towards its propagation, particularly for a Vrindavan ashram. The Akhara accepted her request on the condition that she fully embrace the monastic life, though she was permitted to continue acting in roles that align with her newfound spiritual path. The Akhara also intends to appoint her as a spokesperson in the future. The Acharya emphasized the Akhara’s commitment to welcoming anyone who seeks refuge in Sanatan Dharma.
