**Patna, January 24, 2025** – The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) released the results of the much-contested 70th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 on Thursday, despite weeks of widespread protests alleging exam irregularities and a paper leak. Of the 328,990 candidates who sat the exam, 21,581 have been declared successful.
The exam, held on December 13, 2024, at 912 centers, was followed by a supplementary exam on January 4th for candidates at one center who claimed they did not receive the question paper on time. These protests, fueled by allegations of widespread irregularities, were supported by prominent political figures including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Independent MP Pappu Yadav, and Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor. Protests involved demonstrations, a Bihar Bandh called by Pappu Yadav, and even an indefinite hunger strike by Prashant Kishor. Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also visited the protest site, pledging support.
While BPSC Chairman Parmar Ravi Manubhai denied allegations of a paper leak, claiming the exam was conducted peacefully at 911 of the centers, many candidates continued to demand a re-examination for all participants, not just those at the affected center. Police intervention, including the use of water cannons, was necessary to disperse protestors in December.
The BPSC also announced the debarment of 13 candidates for three years due to unfair practices. The results remain contentious, with a petition filed in the Patna High Court scheduled for a hearing on January 31st. The court’s decision will ultimately determine the validity of the released results. As of press time, there has been no reaction from protesters to the announcement of results.
