Fri Jan 24 23:20:00 IST 2025: **Gulf Coast Winter Storm Prompts Major Airline Disruptions**

**Houston, TX (January 20, 2025)** – A major winter storm expected to blanket the Gulf Coast from Texas to North Carolina is causing widespread flight disruptions. Airlines are preemptively canceling and delaying flights, leaving thousands of travelers facing travel headaches.

Heavy snow and ice are forecast across eight states, prompting winter storm warnings and advisories across a 1,500-mile stretch. The storm follows frigid conditions already impacting the Northeast.

Several major airlines, including American, Delta, JetBlue, United, and Southwest, have issued travel waivers and alerts, allowing passengers to change or cancel flights without penalty. These waivers cover numerous cities across the affected region. American Airlines has waived fees for 38 Gulf Coast cities, while Breeze Airways has waivers in place for several locations in the Northeast and Gulf Coast.

FlightAware reports over 1,600 flights scheduled for Tuesday have already been canceled as of Monday afternoon. Houston’s three major airports – George Bush Intercontinental, Hobby, and Ellington – plan to cease operations entirely at midnight Tuesday.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the storm’s impact. The severe weather is expected to continue into Wednesday.
