MUMBAI, January 24, 2025 – Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer engaged in a heated argument with an umpire after being dismissed during a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred during Mumbai’s second innings. Iyer was given out caught behind off Aukib Nabi Dhri’s bowling, a diving catch taken by wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Vadhav. Despite the umpire’s immediate decision, Iyer refused to leave the field, engaging in a prolonged dispute with the official. Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane also intervened in the argument. The dispute, while lengthy, ultimately did not overturn the umpire’s decision, and Iyer eventually left the field.

Iyer scored 17 runs off 16 balls before his dismissal. Other Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube, also failed to make significant contributions with the bat. Sharma scored 28 runs off 35 balls before being caught by Abid Mushtaq off the bowling of Yudveer Singh. Jaiswal managed 26 runs off 51 balls before being dismissed by the same bowler. Dube was dismissed for a duck in the second innings. Mumbai’s first innings ended on a meager 120 runs, while Jammu and Kashmir replied with 206 runs in 46.3 overs.
