Fri Jan 24 14:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Former Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Becomes Mahamandaleshwar
**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Jan 24, 2025** – Mamta Kulkarni, a prominent Bollywood actress of the 1990s known for her bold and glamorous roles, has embarked on a new chapter, leaving behind the glitz and glamour of the film industry to embrace spirituality. Kulkarni has been initiated as a Mahamandaleshwar (a high-ranking title in Hinduism) within the Kinnar Akhada, a monastic order for transgender individuals.
Kulkarni performed her Pind Daan (a ritual offering for the deceased) on Friday at Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj, a crucial step in the process. Her formal investiture ceremony is expected to take place later at the Kinnar Akhada. This follows meetings with Acharya Mahamandleshwar Swami Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhada and Mahamandleshwar Swami Jay Ambanand Giri of the Juna Akhada, fueling speculation about her spiritual transition.
The Kinnar Akhada, established in 2015, advocates for the inclusion and recognition of transgender individuals in both spiritual and social spheres. By appointing Kulkarni as a Mahamandaleshwar, the Akhada aims to amplify its message and expand its reach. The Maha Kumbh Mela, where this initiation took place, is a significant event during which new ascetics join orders and receive higher monastic designations.
Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhada confirmed Kulkarni’s initiation, stating that the actress had expressed a desire to connect with Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) for the past two years. Previously a disciple in the Juna Akhada, she eventually sought to join the Kinnar Akhada. Kulkarni herself recently stated that she has no plans to return to acting, marking a definitive shift from her Bollywood career. This spiritual journey comes after a period spent abroad following her past relationship with gangster Vikram Goswami.
