RAMANATHAPURAM, Tamil Nadu – A Town Planning Officer in Paramakudi Municipality, identified as Bargunan, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe via Google Pay (GPay). The bribe was solicited from a chartered engineer who had submitted plans for four residential plots on behalf of a client.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), the engineer had already paid the required government fees of ₹76,850 online. Bargunan demanded an additional bribe for approving the plans. The engineer reported the incident to the DVAC, who subsequently registered a case and monitored the GPay transaction. Bargunan was apprehended immediately following the bribe payment, and his mobile phone was seized. The DVAC is currently conducting further investigations.
