Wed Jan 22 20:59:42 UTC 2025: ## Syria’s New Foreign Minister Unveils Post-War Economic Vision at Davos

**Davos, Switzerland** – Syria’s new foreign minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, has outlined an ambitious plan for post-war economic recovery at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Al-Shaibani stated that Syria aims to emulate the economic success of nations like Singapore and Saudi Arabia, but requires significant international assistance to achieve this goal.

Addressing the forum, al-Shaibani highlighted ongoing energy partnerships with several Gulf states and emphasized the importance of easing crippling international sanctions. He called the sanctions the “big challenge,” arguing that their removal is crucial for Syria’s stability. He also underscored that the Syrian government is already working to overcome significant challenges inherited from the Assad regime.

The minister also announced plans for a new constitution, to be drafted by a committee of experts representing all Syrian communities, including women. This process is expected to take up to four years. Al-Shaibani reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rights of all groups under the rule of law. He addressed concerns from Western nations regarding human rights, assuring them that the new constitution will guarantee these rights for all citizens.

Al-Shaibani’s recent visits to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar have already yielded results, with Qatar pledging to supply Syria with increasing amounts of electricity, starting with 200 megawatts. While some Western nations have begun restoring ties with Damascus, cautious optimism remains regarding the new leadership and the long-term prospects for peace and stability in the war-torn country.
