**Los Angeles, CA** – The 2025 Academy Award nominations were announced Thursday morning after a delay due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The French-language film *Emilia Pérez* leads the pack with a record-breaking 13 nominations, surpassing the previous record held by *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* and *Roma*.

*Emilia Pérez* is followed closely by *The Brutalist* and *Wicked*, each with 10 nominations. *A Complete Unknown* and *Conclave* received eight nominations apiece. All five films are vying for Best Picture, along with *Anora*, *Dune: Part Two*, *I’m Still Here*, *Nickel Boys*, and *The Substance*.

This year’s nominations mark several historic milestones. Karla Sofía Gascón, the star of *Emilia Pérez*, becomes the first openly transgender performer nominated for Best Actress. Demi Moore and Isabella Rossellini earned their first-ever Oscar nominations, while Fernanda Torres follows in her mother’s footsteps, becoming only the second Brazilian actress nominated for Best Actress. Coralie Fargeat is the sole female director nominated, receiving nods for both directing and writing *The Substance*.

Other notable nominees include Jacques Audiard (Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for *Emilia Pérez*), Zoe Saldaña (Supporting Actress for *Emilia Pérez*), Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande (both for *Wicked*), and Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce (all for *The Brutalist*). The acting category is particularly competitive, with nominees including Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Timothée Chalamet, Monica Barbaro, Ralph Fiennes, and Colman Domingo, among others.

Netflix leads the studios with 16 nominations. The nominations were announced by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live on ABC and Hulu on March 2nd. The Academy has also donated $1 million to wildfire relief efforts.
