Thu Jan 23 08:30:00 UTC 2025: **Telangana Ministers Announce Sweeping Welfare Measures and Infrastructure Projects**

HYDERABAD, January 22, 2025 – Telangana’s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced significant welfare initiatives and infrastructure projects during a series of Gram Sabhas in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

The ministers highlighted the Congress government’s commitment to expanding welfare programs to reach every eligible citizen. Minister Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for issuing fewer than 40,000 ration cards over ten years, contrasting it with the Congress government’s efforts to issue new ration cards to an additional 40 lakh people. A key component of this initiative is providing 6 kg of fine rice free of cost to all ration cardholders, replacing coarse rice due to concerns over edibility and diversion. This initiative will cost the government an additional ₹11,000 crore annually.

Minister Prabhakar detailed other welfare schemes implemented since the Congress government took power in December 2023, including free travel for women on RTC buses, free power up to 200 units, subsidized gas cylinders, free power for farmers, and crop loan waivers.

Focusing on infrastructure, Minister Reddy announced the accelerated completion of the Narayanpur reservoir within the next year, allocating ₹32 crore for land acquisition and ₹10 crore for other works. This project is expected to irrigate an additional 70,000 acres. He also confirmed the completion of the Yellampalli Reservoir’s remaining works within a year. The ministers, along with several MLAs and MLCs, visited the Narayanpur reservoir site on Wednesday.
