**Bengaluru, January 23, 2025** – The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) launched an animation film, “Nanna Surakshate Nanna Hakku” (My safety is my right), promoting personal safety among children. This release follows a highly successful 2.5-year program reaching nearly 25,000 children in Bengaluru government schools.
The program, funded by the Bengaluru City Police’s Safe City Project under the Nirbhaya scheme, involved a team led by Dr. Eesha Sharma. It comprised two modules tailored to different age groups (grades 6-7 and 8-10), covering physical and emotional safety, gender, sexuality, and healthy relationships. The curriculum drew from manuals developed by NIMHANS and translated into Kannada for wider use. Over 350 teachers also participated in sensitization sessions.
The 80-minute animation film, featuring relatable characters, introduces key safety concepts and empowers children to identify and report unsafe situations. It will be available on the NIMHANS website for public use, suitable for independent viewing or classroom discussions.
The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including education and police officials. The program’s success highlights the growing need for comprehensive child safety initiatives and the potential of engaging media like animation films in raising awareness.
