**Amaravati, India** – Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh has announced ambitious plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the state’s education system and develop a global AI hub. Addressing the World Economic Forum’s Davos meeting, Lokesh revealed the state’s strategy to cultivate a skilled workforce in AI and related fields.
Key initiatives include the establishment of three AI Centers of Excellence to train AI specialists and foster innovation. The state government also plans to integrate AI into the school curriculum for grades 7-9. Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh is developing a dedicated AI university in Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with NVDIA. This is part of a broader vision to create three knowledge cities in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati, featuring multiple world-class universities focused on AI, biotechnology, and quantum computing.
Lokesh emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and corporations to align curricula with industry needs. He highlighted the growing demand for AI professionals and the potential for AI to revolutionize various sectors, including energy management (AP Transco is already using AI to predict energy demand), healthcare, and environmental monitoring. The minister also mentioned a goal of achieving a 95% skilled workforce by 2047.
The state’s commitment to AI development includes recent investments of ₹131 crore in eight new AI and IoT startups. Lokesh also expressed a desire for increased collaboration with international institutions, requesting research partnerships with the National University of Singapore to focus on agriculture and biotechnology projects. The Andhra Pradesh government is already collaborating with Imperial College London and other institutions on research and development. The overall aim is to establish Andhra Pradesh as a leading global Deep Tech hub by 2047.
