**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, announced today the acquisition of the popular skincare and haircare brand Minimalist. The deal, valued at ₹2,955 crore (pre-money valuation), will see HUL acquire a 90.5% stake in Uprising Science, Minimalist’s parent company, through a combination of secondary buyouts and primary investment. The remaining 9.5% stake will be acquired within two years.
Minimalist, founded in 2020, generated a turnover of ₹347 crore in FY2023-24. The direct-to-consumer (DTC) brand is known for its science-backed skincare products, including moisturisers, sunscreens, shampoos, and AI-based skin analysis solutions. The acquisition aligns with HUL’s strategy to expand its premium beauty and wellbeing portfolio and reach a broader consumer base.
“This acquisition is another key step to grow our Beauty & Wellbeing portfolio,” said Rohit Jawa, CEO and Managing Director of HUL. “Mohit and Rahul Yadav [Minimalist founders] have created a great brand built on science, product efficacy, and transparency.”
The Minimalist founders expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential for expanded market access through HUL’s extensive distribution network and opportunities for international growth.
In separate news, HUL also announced plans to demerge its ice cream business into its wholly-owned subsidiary, Kwality Wall’s (India) Limited. This move, approved by the Board of Directors, aims to streamline operations and facilitate a smoother transition for both the business and its employees. Following the demerger and KWIL’s subsequent listing, HUL shareholders will directly hold KWIL shares.
