Wed Jan 22 19:33:28 IST 2025: ## BJP and Congress Unite in Attack on AAP Ahead of Delhi Elections
**New Delhi, January 22, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress launched a joint offensive against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of next month’s Delhi Assembly elections. The attacks centered on allegations that Punjab police officers are campaigning for AAP and that thousands of vehicles registered in Punjab are illegally influencing voters in Delhi.
BJP leader Parvesh Verma, contesting against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, claimed that thousands of vehicles with Punjab registration plates are operating in Delhi, distributing alcohol and money, and potentially compromising security ahead of Republic Day. He further alleged that Punjab government employees were caught installing Chinese-made CCTV cameras near India Gate. Verma filed a complaint with the Election Commission and Delhi Police and also initiated a ₹100 crore defamation case against Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit echoed these concerns, accusing Punjab police of campaigning for AAP and presenting photographic evidence to support his claims. He demanded the Election Commission investigate.
The AAP responded angrily, with Kejriwal and Mann accusing the BJP of insulting the people of Punjab and portraying them as a security threat. They highlighted the significant Punjabi population in Delhi and their contributions to the nation. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar condemned the BJP’s actions as divisive politics.
The dispute follows an exchange between Delhi and Punjab police, with Delhi police requesting information on the movement of AAP leaders from Punjab and Punjab police instructing their ministers to comply with Election Commission guidelines.
Delhi will hold its Assembly elections on February 5th, with results announced three days later. The 2020 elections saw a landslide victory for the AAP, securing 62 out of 70 seats.
