**Rome, Italy –** Ten-year-old Atiqa Mir from Jammu and Kashmir is poised to make history as the first Indian woman to compete in the World Series Karting (WSK) Championships. Signed by 29-time champions Babyrace for a full season, Mir will participate in all three WSK Championships this year: the Super Master Series, the Euro Series, and the Final Cup.
Mir’s selection follows impressive results during a test session at the La Conca circuit in southern Italy. She will be the sole female competitor in the Mini class, a highly competitive field of over 60 karts. The WSK Super Master Series, the first of the three championships, begins this weekend.
“I am super thrilled to get this opportunity,” Mir stated. “This will be the highest level of karting I have ever driven in. It will be challenging, but I am up for it.”
WSK is renowned as the pinnacle of karting, attracting top talent and manufacturers. Notable past participants include reigning world champion Max Verstappen, reflecting the series’ significance in developing future Formula One stars. Mir’s racing lineage adds another layer to her story; her father, Asif Nazir, is India’s first National Karting Champion and Formula Asia Vice Champion, and will be supporting her in Italy.
Nazir acknowledges the significant challenge ahead: “It will be tough for her racing against this quality of field. She has to learn new tracks, new conditions and adapt herself to this new environment. It will be challenging and a learning year for her.” Despite the difficulty, Mir’s dedication and talent have propelled her to this prestigious competition, marking a momentous occasion for Indian motorsport.
