Wed Jan 22 22:10:00 IST 2025: ## Trump Appoints New Chairs to NLRB and EEOC

**Washington, D.C.** – President Donald Trump has appointed Marvin Kaplan as chairman of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Andrea Lucas as acting chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). These appointments, announced Monday as part of a series of executive orders, mark a shift in leadership at two key federal agencies overseeing labor and employment issues.

Kaplan, the sole Republican member of the NLRB, succeeds Gwynne Wilcox, who was appointed by President Biden. Kaplan’s term expires in August, and two seats on the board remain vacant. Prior to his NLRB appointment, Kaplan served as chief counsel to the chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Lucas, the lone Republican commissioner at the EEOC, replaces Charlotte Burrows. Her term expires in July. Before joining the EEOC, Lucas was a member of the labor and employment and litigation practice groups at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.

The appointments were widely anticipated following the Trump administration’s return to power. Experts predict these changes will lead to a review of existing policies and potentially a shift in enforcement priorities at both agencies. The impact on employment law and regulations is expected to be significant.
