**Mumbai, India –** A Bangladeshi national, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, has been arrested for stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a home invasion in Mumbai. Shehzad, 30, illegally entered India seven months ago via Meghalaya, using a false identity (“Bijoy Das”) and a fraudulently obtained SIM card.
The attack occurred on January 16th at Khan’s Bandra residence. Khan sustained six stab wounds, with a 2.5-inch piece of a broken knife removed from his spine during emergency surgery. Doctors stated that the injury was narrowly avoided being life-threatening. Khan was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
According to police, Shehzad, who had been living in Mumbai and working informally to avoid needing identification, claimed he stabbed Khan while trying to escape after being apprehended. Khan’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, witnessed the attack, describing the intruder as aggressive and repeatedly stabbing her husband. A nurse also present reported that the assailant demanded 1 crore rupees (approximately $1.2 million USD).
Following a 70-hour manhunt involving extensive CCTV footage analysis, Shehzad was apprehended on Sunday near Thane and remanded in police custody for five days. The investigation continues.
