Wed Jan 22 15:03:17 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Fails to Ignite Box Office, Lagging Behind Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’

**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” continues to underperform at the box office, collecting only ₹12.4 crore in its first five days. While surpassing the box office returns of her previous films, “Tejas” and “Dhaakad,” it pales in comparison to Alia Bhatt’s “Jigra,” which raked in ₹22.45 crore in its opening week, despite also facing a steep decline in viewership after its initial release.

“Emergency,” which opened with ₹2.5 crore on its first day, saw a slight uptick on days two and three, but experienced a significant 75% drop on Monday, earning a mere ₹1.05 crore. Tuesday’s collections further dipped to ₹1 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s overall occupancy on Tuesday was a meager 7.09 percent.

The underperformance of “Emergency” comes amidst a backdrop of previous accusations and veiled criticisms exchanged between the two actresses. Alia Bhatt faced allegations of box office manipulation for “Jigra,” while Kangana Ranaut alluded to sabotage of women-centric films, without explicitly mentioning Bhatt. This adds another layer to the already tense rivalry between the two Bollywood stars.

Another new release, “Azaad,” starring newcomers Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, is also struggling at the box office, accumulating ₹5.75 crore in its first five days. The film’s Tuesday collections dropped to ₹55 lakh.

“Emergency,” a biographical drama portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stars Kangana Ranaut alongside Mahima Choudhary, Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik. The film’s underwhelming performance raises questions about its marketing and reception despite a strong cast and subject matter.
