Tue Jan 21 23:58:14 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency” Struggles at Box Office, Fails to Gain Momentum

**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” a biographical drama depicting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is facing a challenging run at the box office. While the film opened decently, collecting ₹2.5 crore on its first day, its performance has significantly dwindled throughout the week. According to Sacnilk.com, the film’s fifth-day collection reached a low of ₹1 crore, bringing its total earnings to approximately ₹12.40 crore.

The film’s weak weekday performance follows a noticeable drop on day four, which saw collections fall to ₹1.05 crore. This underperformance comes despite Ranaut’s thank you message to audiences on social media. Her post also highlighted the film’s inability to release in Punjab due to protests and calls for a ban from Sikh organizations and politicians. Ranaut expressed disappointment, noting Punjab’s historically strong performance for her films.

“Emergency,” which also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik, portrays the political upheaval and social impact of the 1975 Emergency in India. Despite its star cast and ambitious subject matter, the film’s box office struggles raise questions about its long-term prospects.
