**Mumbai, India** – Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday following a violent attack at his home last week. Khan, who sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine during a confrontation with an intruder attempting theft, was released after five days of treatment. His departure from the hospital was met with heavy police security and a throng of paparazzi.
The intruder, identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, was apprehended while attempting to flee to his home country. Police are investigating the incident.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah condemned the attack, stating that the actions of one individual should not reflect on an entire nation.
Khan’s return home was closely monitored. He was accompanied by actor Ronit Roy, whose security firm, Ace Security and Protection, has been hired to bolster Khan’s safety measures following the incident. Roy was seen coordinating security arrangements at Khan’s residence. Khan greeted fans and the media before entering his home. Mumbai Police visited Khan’s home on Wednesday to record his statement.
An auto-rickshaw driver who helped transport Khan to the hospital after the attack recounted seeing the actor bleeding heavily from his neck and back. The driver, identified as Rana, stated that Khan and others emerged from the gate of his residence around 2-3 a.m. and urgently requested a ride to Lilavati Hospital.
