Wed Jan 22 17:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Airtel Revamps Prepaid Plans, Focusing on Voice and SMS

**NEW DELHI** – Bharti Airtel has announced a restructuring of its prepaid plans, eliminating data allowances to cater specifically to users prioritizing voice calls and SMS messages. The move comes in response to recent guidelines from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The company’s flagship change is to its ₹509 prepaid plan. Previously including 6GB of data, this plan now offers unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS messages with an 84-day validity. Airtel is highlighting the plan’s effective monthly cost of approximately ₹170, along with bundled benefits like access to the Airtel Xstream App, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, and free Hello Tunes.

For long-term users, Airtel has also revised its ₹1,999 annual plan. This now provides unlimited voice calls and 3,600 SMS messages over 365 days, again including the same extra benefits. The effective monthly cost here is calculated at approximately ₹153.

Airtel explained the removal of data from these plans as a response to customer needs. Many users, particularly those with basic 2G phones or dual SIM setups, often find themselves paying for unused data bundled with voice and SMS services. By offering these streamlined plans, Airtel aims to provide a more cost-effective and tailored solution for these customers. The updated plans are now available on Airtel’s website.
