**PUTTAPARTHI, Andhra Pradesh, January 23, 2025** – A 10-member gang operating a counterfeit gold scam has been apprehended by Sri Sathya Sai district police. The gang, targeting victims across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, was arrested on Wednesday at Nadimpalli Cross in Somandepalli mandal while attempting to divide their spoils.
Police reported that the gang lured victims with promises of heavily discounted gold, defrauding them of significant sums. Two incidents were reported: one in December 2024 near Brahmanapalli, resulting in a ₹9 lakh loss, and another on January 9th in Kuppam mandal, where a victim lost ₹14 lakh.
Following the arrests, police recovered ₹21 lakh in cash, five motorcycles, and five mobile phones. The accused, aged between 22 and 35, hail from Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts in Andhra Pradesh, as well as Karnataka. Charges under Section 318(4) read with Section 3(5) of the BNS Act have been filed. Superintendent of Police V. Ratna confirmed the details to the media.
