**Mumbai, January 20, 2025** – A Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Khan was attacked at his Bandra home in the early hours of January 16th and underwent a five-hour surgery for multiple stab wounds at Lilavati Hospital.
Police say Shehzad, who had previously worked at a Worli pub, entered Khan’s home intending to commit theft. Following the attack, he reportedly slept at a bus stop, changed clothes, and travelled to Thane, evading capture for several days.
The breakthrough in the investigation came from CCTV footage showing Shehzad’s distinctive backpack. Further investigation using CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and online transaction records helped police track him down. A tip from a labour contractor in Worli, who had briefly employed Shehzad, provided his mobile number, aiding the police.
Shehzad was apprehended in Thane and has been remanded in five-day police custody. The court noted that the possibility of an international conspiracy cannot be ruled out. He faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for robbery, housebreaking, and other offenses, as well as violations of the Passport Act. The investigation continues.
