**THRISSUR, KERALA –** Three men have been arrested in connection with the death of a Keralite man who was recruited to serve in the Russian Military Support Service. Sandeep Thomas, Sumesh Antony, and Sibi, all residents of Thrissur, were apprehended by Wadakkanchery police following a complaint filed by the wife and father of two victims.
The accused are alleged to have lured Binil T.B. and Jain T.K., both ITI mechanical diploma holders, to Russia with promises of high-paying jobs as electricians and plumbers. Upon arrival in April 2024, the men’s passports were confiscated, and they were deployed to a war zone. Binil, 32, died while serving, while Jain, 27, was injured and remains hospitalized in Moscow.
The arrests follow an ongoing investigation into the recruitment of Indian nationals to fight in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Police have charged the three men under the Emigration Act with human trafficking and cheating. The incident adds to the growing concerns over the recruitment of Indian citizens to serve in foreign militaries under false pretenses.
