**Surat, Gujarat –** A gruesome discovery near a drain in Surat’s Apekshanagar on January 9th has led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy. Children playing near a drain found a stillborn female foetus discarded amongst rubbish, attracting carrion birds. Police investigation revealed the foetus belonged to a 16-year-old girl who had a miscarriage after allegedly taking abortion pills sent by her 17-year-old boyfriend, whom she met on Instagram.
The 16-year-old girl, who attended school until January 3rd, admitted to having a relationship with the boy, who resides in a rented house in Pandesara. After discovering her pregnancy, the boy fled to Uttar Pradesh and later Mumbai, from where he sent her abortion pills. The girl subsequently experienced a miscarriage at home and disposed of the foetus.
Police, after a thorough investigation including a medical examination confirming the girl’s recent pregnancy, have detained the 17-year-old boy. Both individuals’ DNA samples have been collected, and the case is under investigation. The boy will be presented before a Juvenile Justice Board. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
