Sat Jan 18 18:11:37 UTC 2025: ## Vijayawada Road Remains in Disrepair Despite Government’s Cleanliness Push

**VIJAYAWADA, January 19, 2025** – A major road in Vijayawada, the Ramalayam Road connecting the Autonagar bus terminal to Eluru Road, remains in a state of disrepair despite the state government’s emphasis on environmental cleanliness. The road, flanked by industries, is plagued by poor sanitation, including an open drain and overflowing garbage, creating a significant health hazard and inconvenience for residents and commuters.

Local residents report unbearable stench, mosquito infestations, and the risk of vehicle damage due to the poor road conditions. Last week, an auto-rickshaw reportedly fell into the open drain. While some residents believe the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is responsible for the maintenance, others point to the Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA).

Former IALA Chairman S. Durga Prasad clarified that the road is technically under the Zilla Parishad. However, he stated that the IALA had previously invested lakhs of rupees in road development and drain improvements between 2014 and 2019, but the work was stalled. He also highlighted the challenges posed by the geographical location, with drains collecting waste from 14 surrounding colonies. Despite repeated attempts to address the issue with the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner, the problem persists. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining sanitation and infrastructure even amidst government initiatives.
