Sun Jan 19 01:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Kashmir Sees Temperature Rise After Fresh Snowfall
**Srinagar, January 18, 2025** – Temperatures in Kashmir have risen significantly following a recent snowfall, offering some respite from the region’s harsh winter. The meteorological department reported minimum temperatures seven degrees higher than the previous night in several areas, reaching -3.4° Celsius in Pahalgam. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -0.9° Celsius. Gulmarg saw a low of -8.2° Celsius.
The improved conditions come amidst the “Chillai-Kalan,” the 40-day period (December 21st – January 30th) known for its heaviest snowfall and lowest temperatures. While the current forecast predicts very light to light snowfall in the coming week, with chances of light to moderate snow on January 23rd, the warmer temperatures provide a temporary reprieve for residents. The meteorological department anticipates isolated higher reaches to see very light snow on Saturday and Sunday, with light snow expected at isolated to scattered places on Monday and Tuesday. Light snow is also possible at scattered places on January 22nd. Following Chillai-Kalan, Kashmir will experience a 20-day “Chillai-Khurd” and a 10-day “Chillai-Bachha,” both periods of milder cold.
