**Chennai, January 19, 2025** – Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer and current Director-General of Police (Armed Police) in Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as an Additional Director-General of Police in the Border Security Force (BSF). The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the appointment, which will last for four years.
Mr. Aggarwal, who hails from the Tamil Nadu cadre, previously served as Chennai’s Commissioner of Police and oversaw several key units, including Operations, Enforcement Bureau, and Armed Police. He spearheaded initiatives such as the “Drive Against Drugs” and “Kaaval Karangal” programs, in addition to several police welfare schemes. His experience also includes a stint with the Central Bureau of Investigation as Joint Director in Chandigarh. He is a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The Government of India has requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary to release Mr. Aggarwal from his current position as soon as possible.
