Sun Jan 19 04:11:50 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Fog Causes Major Train Delays, Worsens Air Quality
**NEW DELHI, January [Date]** – Dense fog enveloped Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday, causing widespread disruption to train services and plunging air quality into the “very poor” range.
At least 47 trains originating from Delhi were affected, with 41 running significantly late – some by more than three hours. Several prominent trains, including the KIR-ASR Express and Lichchavi Express, experienced considerable delays. Six other train schedules were revised. Railway authorities are working to minimize further delays and ensure passenger safety, urging travelers to check schedules via official apps and station announcements.
Visibility was severely reduced due to the fog, which arrived alongside a temperature drop to 10 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported dense fog across the region, predicting its persistence until January 21, followed by light rain or thundershowers on January 22 and 23. Temperatures are expected to remain low, ranging from 7 to 12 degrees Celsius in the mornings and 18 to 21 degrees Celsius during the day.
The fog exacerbated Delhi’s already concerning air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) plummeted to 335 (“very poor”), a sharp decrease from Saturday’s 248. While the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently lifted Stage-III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the worsening air quality remains a cause for concern.
The cold snap has also increased demand for night shelters, with authorities working to ensure sufficient provisions for the homeless. Dense to very dense fog is forecast for parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, while a cold spell continues in northern Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Conversely, southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are experiencing intermittent rainfall.
