Sat Jan 18 15:50:00 UTC 2025: **Country Singer Lee Greenwood Celebrates Trump’s Inauguration, Reflects on Long Friendship**
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Country music singer Lee Greenwood, known for his patriotic anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.,” performed at President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony Monday, marking another milestone in his long-standing relationship with the former president. Greenwood, who has performed for several presidents, including Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, described his relationship with Trump as a friendship forged over years of performing at Trump rallies and events, including the Republican National Convention and a controversial Madison Square Garden rally.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Greenwood expressed his excitement about the inauguration, stating, “The pageantry is wonderful. I’m excited to sing yet again for the President of the United States and particularly my friend Donald J. Trump.” He also performed at a “Make America Great Again” rally at Capital One Arena on Sunday.
Greenwood recounted a memorable moment from Trump’s 2017 inauguration at the Lincoln Memorial, where Trump predicted his presidency would last eight years. While there was a gap between 2020 and 2025, Greenwood noted that Trump’s current term fulfills that prediction.
The singer also discussed the creation of the “God Bless the U.S.A. Bible,” a King James Version Bible featuring the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance, along with a handwritten chorus of his famous song. The project, a collaborative effort between Greenwood, his wife, and his management team, was partly inspired by Greenwood’s performances at swearing-in ceremonies for new citizens. He explained that the project aimed to promote understanding of American founding documents and was endorsed by his pastor. The Bible is printed in China, and both Greenwood and Trump have separate licensing agreements with the manufacturer.
Greenwood revealed that Trump’s early use of “God Bless the U.S.A.” at rallies was initially unsanctioned, with no prior conversation between the two camps. The collaboration developed organically, culminating in Greenwood’s regular performances at Trump events. He attributes his association with Trump to his wife Kim’s long-standing role (21 years) as an executive director within the Miss Universe organization, owned by Trump at the time.
