**New Delhi, January 17, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, marking the largest mobility expo in India’s history. The event, spanning three venues in the National Capital Region, boasts over 9 concurrent shows, 20+ conferences and pavilions, and significantly surpasses last year’s scale with a projected attendance far exceeding the 250,000 visitors of the previous event and more than 800 exhibitors.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s burgeoning automotive sector, emphasizing its 12% growth in the past year and the rising export numbers fueled by the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative. He noted that India’s annual car sales now surpass the population of many countries, reflecting the massive and growing domestic demand. He praised the contributions of industry pioneers like Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki, whose legacies continue to inspire the sector.
Modi underscored several key drivers of this growth: a large and youthful population, a rapidly expanding middle class, rapid urbanization, improved infrastructure, and affordable vehicles made possible by the “Make in India” initiative. He stressed the government’s commitment to ease of travel, citing the ₹11 lakh crore allocated for infrastructure development and the acceleration of multimodal connectivity through the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s focus on “Seven Cs” for mobility solutions: Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-free, Charged, Clean, and Cutting-edge. This includes a strong push towards green technology, electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen fuel, and biofuels, evidenced by initiatives like the National Electric Mobility Mission and the Green Hydrogen Mission. He noted the remarkable 640-fold increase in EV sales over the past decade, and projected an eightfold increase by the end of this decade. The government’s commitment was further highlighted by the PM’s mention of the FAME-2 scheme, the PM E-Drive scheme, and the PLI scheme for advanced chemistry cell battery storage.
Modi also stressed the role of the Make in India initiative, citing the PLI schemes that have generated over ₹2.25 lakh crore in sales and created over 1.5 lakh direct jobs. He invited global investors, highlighting that the sector has attracted over $36 billion in Foreign Direct Investment in the last four years alone. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s full support for the sector and urging manufacturers to leverage the vehicle scrapping policy and embrace the “Make in India, Make for the World” mantra. The expo, an industry-led initiative supported by the government, runs until January 22nd.
