**Mumbai, India** – Following a string of disappointing batting performances by Team India in recent Test series against New Zealand and Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Sitanshu Kotak as the national team’s new batting coach. The announcement comes ahead of upcoming limited-overs series against England and the Champions Trophy next month.
Kotak, 52, currently serves as the head coach of India A and is a long-time staff member of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he previously held the position of batting coach. His appointment follows a review of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar’s performance during the Australia tour. A senior BCCI official cited Kotak’s extensive experience as a specialist batting coach and strong rapport with players as key factors in the decision.
Kotak, a former domestic cricketer with an impressive first-class record (8,061 runs in 130 matches), transitioned to coaching after retirement. He has a Level 3 coaching certification and has previously served as head coach for India’s tour of Ireland and as assistant coach for the Gujarat Lions in the IPL. His experience with the India A team, including tours of Bangladesh, South Africa, and Australia, further solidified his credentials. The BCCI’s decision reflects a strategic move to address the team’s recent batting struggles and bolster its performance in upcoming crucial matches.
