Thu Jan 16 10:14:30 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Fog Disrupts Flights and Trains, City Under Orange Alert

**New Delhi, January 15** – Dense fog caused significant disruptions to travel across the national capital today, marking the season’s first major fog event. Visibility dropped to zero at Safdarjung and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for three hours this morning (8:30 am to 11:30 am), leading to over 100 flight delays and cancellations and disruptions to 26 trains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of potential disruptions to rail and road services. While visibility improved slightly midday, reaching 250 meters at Safdarjung and 400 meters at IGI Airport, the fog returned in the evening. The low visibility necessitated extended CAT-III operations at the airport.

The fog accompanied a drop in temperature, with the minimum reaching 6 degrees Celsius (1.4 degrees below normal) and the maximum at 18.1 degrees Celsius (1.8 degrees below normal). High humidity levels (97-95%) further contributed to the poor visibility.

The IMD advised drivers to use fog lights and exercise caution, and urged travelers to check with airlines and railway authorities for schedule updates. Light rain or drizzle was also predicted. The forecast for Thursday includes cloudy skies, light rain, dense fog, a minimum temperature around 10 degrees Celsius, and a maximum around 17 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “very poor” category, with an AQI of 386.
