Thu Jan 16 03:30:48 UTC 2025: **Hindu Priest’s Body Exhumed in Kerala Amidst Controversy**

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Kerala – The body of Hindu priest Gopan Swami was exhumed this morning in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, following a Kerala High Court ruling. Swami’s death, initially attributed to “samadhi” (spiritual transcendence) by his sons, had sparked controversy and suspicions of foul play among local residents.

The exhumation, which began at 7 a.m. under heavy police security, took place at Kavuvilakam near Aralumoodu. The site was cordoned off, a stark contrast to the confrontation two days prior between police and those who suspected foul play. The Sub Collector and Thiruvananthapuram Revenue Divisional Officer, Alfred O.V., oversaw the process, which was filmed by a forensic team including fingerprint experts.

Police found the body seated within a concrete chamber filled with worship materials. The body has been taken for inquest proceedings and will undergo a post-mortem examination at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital. Tests will determine the cause of death and check for signs of injury or assault. DNA testing may also be conducted to confirm the identity. The investigation continues.
