**Hyderabad, January 16, 2025** – A high-level Telangana government delegation recently concluded a trip to Australia, aiming to enhance the state’s sports infrastructure and establish a new sports university. The delegation, led by A.P. Jitender Reddy (Advisor to the State Government for Sports), Jayesh Ranjan (Special Chief Secretary, IT and Industries), and Soni Bala Devi (Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Sports Authority of Telangana), met with Queensland government officials and toured leading Australian universities and architectural firms.
Discussions focused on best practices in sports facility design, management, and athlete training programs. The delegation met with Populous, a global architectural firm specializing in sports facilities, gaining insights into modern design trends. Visits to Griffith University’s Nathan Campus and the University of Queensland provided exposure to advanced research facilities, innovative programs, and successful models for integrating high-performance sports with academics.
The trip is a key initiative under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s plan to create a comprehensive sports university in Telangana. Meanwhile, back in Telangana, the state cabinet announced significant rewards for several athletes, including housing in Hyderabad for boxer Nikhat Zareen, bowler Mohammed Siraj, and shooter Esha Singh. Young athlete Deepthi Jeevanji will receive ₹1 crore, a Group 2 government job, and land. Zareen and Siraj will also assist in coaching at planned Telangana police boxing and cricket centers.
