**KOCHI, January 16, 2025** – A foreign national, Zubair Derakshshandeh, has been acquitted of drug trafficking charges by a Kochi trial court. Derakshshandeh, arrested aboard a vessel from which authorities seized approximately 2,500 kg of alleged methamphetamine, was found not guilty under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The case, initially investigated by the Indian Navy and later handed to the Narcotics Control Bureau, concluded with the judge ordering Derakshshandeh’s release and deportation to his home country, pending any other legal proceedings.
