**Mangaluru, Karnataka, January 16, 2025** – Renowned artist Ramdas Kamath Shevgoor, a prominent figure in the Mangaluru art scene and inheritor of the Shevgoor Fine Arts legacy, passed away on Wednesday morning in Manipal at the age of 78 due to age-related illness.
Shevgoor, son of pioneering graphic designer and portrait artist L. K. Shevgoor, continued his family’s artistic tradition after his father’s death in 1966. He received formal training at the J J School of Art in Mumbai. His expertise lay in oil portraiture, with his lifelike works gracing numerous educational institutions and establishments in the coastal district. Many portraits in the World Konkani Centre’s Hall of Fame are his creations.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Shevgoor painted thousands of portraits, celebrated for their precision and ability to capture the essence of his subjects. He is survived by his son, Siddarth Shevgoor, and daughter, Deepa Shevgoor. His wife, noted Konkani short story writer Sandhya Shevgoor, predeceased him in 2011. His last rites were performed in Mangaluru on Thursday. The art community mourns the loss of this highly accomplished artist.
