**Austin, TX – January 15, 2025** – Colossal Biosciences, the Texas-based company aiming to bring extinct animals back to life, announced today that it has secured $200 million in Series C funding, led by TWG Global. This investment, alongside a $10 million contribution from Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, catapults Colossal’s valuation to $10.2 billion, making it the first Texas-based decacorn (a privately held company valued at over $10 billion).

Founded in 2021 by software entrepreneur Ben Lamm and geneticist George Church, Colossal has now raised a total of $435 million. The company utilizes genetic engineering and technological solutions to pursue its ambitious goal of de-extinction, focusing on species such as the woolly mammoth and the dodo. Beyond de-extinction, Colossal plans to apply its technology to conservation efforts and human healthcare.

“Our recent technological breakthroughs have been incredibly well-received,” said CEO Ben Lamm. “This funding will allow us to expand our team, develop new technologies, and broaden our de-extinction projects while also furthering our anti-extinction initiatives.” The investment will support team growth, research and development, and expansion into new species.
