Thu Jan 16 13:06:29 UTC 2025: ## BRS Appeals to Supreme Court to Disqualify 10 Congress MLAs in Telangana
**Hyderabad, January 16, 2025** – The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has filed two petitions with the Supreme Court seeking the disqualification of 10 MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress party in Telangana. The party argues that despite a High Court order from November 2024 instructing the Assembly Speaker to act on disqualification pleas under anti-defection laws, no action has been taken.
The petitions, filed on Thursday, include a Special Leave Petition targeting three MLAs and a writ petition against seven others. The BRS contends that the Speaker and Legislature Secretary have failed to even issue preliminary notices to the defected MLAs.
Citing the Keisham Meghachandra case, which emphasizes timely decisions on disqualification, the BRS urges the Supreme Court to compel a decision within four weeks. The decision to appeal to the Supreme Court followed consultations between senior party leader T Harish Rao and a legal team in New Delhi. The party highlights the inaction despite the High Court ruling, emphasizing the need for the Speaker to uphold anti-defection laws.
