**New Delhi, January 16, 2025** – The Indian cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC), Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced today. This landmark decision will impact approximately 49 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners.

The 8th CPC, expected to submit its recommendations by 2026, will overhaul the salary structure and benefits for these public servants. The commission’s establishment comes ahead of the 7th Pay Commission’s expiry in December 2025, ensuring a timely update to compensation.
