**New Delhi –** Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal today met with Election Commission officials to allege widespread manipulation of voter lists in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal, along with a delegation of AAP leaders, presented three key concerns to the commission.
The most serious allegation centers on the New Delhi assembly constituency, where Kejriwal claims BJP MPs have submitted applications to add 30-40 names each to the voter rolls. He alleges this is a systematic attempt to flood the constituency with fraudulent votes, potentially altering the election outcome by a significant margin. He compared the alleged actions to past instances of booth capturing.
Kejriwal stated that the AAP estimates that 13,000 fake votes may have been added, while 5,500 genuine votes may have been deleted. The BJP dismissed the allegations as “laughable,” according to Union Minister Hardeep Puri.
The second concern involved the transfer of votes. Kejriwal expressed relief that the Election Commission approved the transfer of the vote of AAP’s Patparganj candidate, Awadh Ojha, from Greater Noida to Delhi, allowing him to file his nomination papers.
Finally, the AAP accused BJP candidates of distributing bedsheets, shoes, jackets, and money, violating the Model Code of Conduct. Kejriwal said the Election Commission has promised investigations into all three allegations. The Commission assured the AAP that a thorough inquiry will be undertaken, with action taken if necessary to ensure no fake votes are included.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect on January 7th. Voting for the 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies is scheduled for February 5th, with results announced on February 8th.
